After trying most of the clothing available for outdoor activities, we found Merino wool to be the ultimate material. Properly layered, merino wool clothing keeps you the right temperature in any condition. It dries quickly, is soft against the skin, and doesn't hold odour. We have been using Kokatat paddling PFDs in our rental fleet for a few years and have had no problems with them. They are comfortable, have pockets in useful places, reflective tape to make rescues easier, and have lots of adjustable straps making them easy to fit on all different body types. They also make PFDs cut specifically for women. Kokatat also makes paddling jackets, dry suits, and accessories like booties, gloves, shirts etc. We keep a stock of the most popular PFDs as well as a few gloves and can order anything else. The dry spaces in our boats are not easily accessible so our guides keep their gear in a dry bag - often tossed into the engine well to keep it out of the way. SealLine backpacks and duffels are by far the top choice for our guides and SealLine dry bags are what most of the kayakers who use our transportation and/or rental services use. Although we have not been using Bogs boots for long, when we were asking people what we should stock in our new store we had many requests for these boots. From what we have seen so far, Bogs are warm, comfortable, and dry quickly. With the new lines coming out at the late summer of 2010, Bogs will have boots for every activity. We stock the Classic High Black series in men's and women's, the Classic High with designs and handles in men's and women's, and a few kids boots. Starting in the fall we will also have the mens industrial and womens riding series. MSR stoves and cookware have been the standard in multiday kayak and backpack trips for many years. Because the airlines sometimes take peoples stoves and fuel bottles if they are not properly cleaned, we keep a stock of some of the most popular varieties. We also stock Dromedaries, Alpine pot sets, dishes and lots of isopro canisters. Helly Hansen commercial fishermen's rain gear is the only rain gear we trust to keep our guests dry. They also make great floater jackets, cruiser suits, bush gear, fleece thermal wear, polypro base layers, tuques and gloves. There are risks to any outdoor activity, but the proper organization and safety gear can help to minimize that risk.
