Are Zodiacs for you?

Tours with Moresby Explorers Ltd are ideal as a fun and exciting family vacation. Guests can be as young as 2 or as old as 82, but they all will have something in common, a desire to get off the beaten path and explore! Whether the interests be Haida history, birding, wildlife viewing or just being out there in the wilderness, our tours have something for this kind of person.

Unlike much that is advertised, the reality of nature is often wind and rain, or salt spray in the face, the guests are jarred by choppy waves or suddenly become almost weightless as we crest on a large Pacific Swell. We may be slightly chilly on the boat but a hearty meal and a warm atmosphere at the float camp soon bring warmth to the body and soul to those traveling on overnight tours.

Physically, guests must be able to endure some jarring and must be flexible/agile enough to climb on and off the boat at the beaches where we unload. Other than the float camp, there are no docks once we leave Moresby Camp. There is not a lot of walking at the sites with the exception of Ninstints. If we unload on the North Beach (which Parks Canada prefers) then there will be a ten minute walk, on the path, in each direction.

Pregnant women and people with chronic back or neck problems should consult their doctor prior to joining our trips and we must be made aware of the condition. If weather is going to be a major factor in the days activities, we may have to alter plans or exclude them if no alternatives are available. The nearest medical facility is in Queen Charlotte City and we will be almost 100 miles away on a visit to Ninstints.

We feel that some of the sites are over-hyped and some guests arrive with expectations that the reality cannot match. Skedans and Tanu are very beautiful places with a strong history of Haida presence, but they have been left to nature for almost 150 years. Structurally, the longhouses have collapsed and few remnants are visible at Skedans. There are some mortuary and memorial poles still standing and it is from these you will find the catalyst to visualize the original village. At Tanu you can see the collapsed house structures but no poles are standing. We view our visits to these sites as an important part of our days activities, but balance them with other interesting facets of the island history, geography, or wildlife.

We don't know what surprises each day might bring, but everyday is a new day, and we hope that you might join us for at least one!
